Starting from January 2019, Oracle
JDK 8 stopped public updates and was no longer free for
commercial use. For updates and vulnerability fixes, customers MUST buy a subscription from Oracle. Without it, existing Oracle JDK 8 installations are unprotected.
OpenJDK becomes the best migration option to Oracle JDK
users as Red Hat will oversee maintenance and bug fixes for OpenJDK 8 and OpenJDK 11 projects releases. With the transition, Red Hat has affirmed its support of the Java community and is following a similar path that led to its leadership of both the OpenJDK 6 and OpenJDK 7 projects.
